Episode 69: Perfect Vs. Productive
SHOW NOTES
Ep. 69 -
I often see students aiming for perfection when perfection is not needed, and moreover, is actually hindering them and their performance.
On the other hand, I also see students (sometimes the exact same student!) not paying enough attention to getting as close to perfect as possible, when actually that’s what they do need to be doing.
This is the battle between perfection vs productivity.
Listen in to find out which one is required - and when - for best possible results and optimal return on effort.
FEATURED ON THE SHOW:
You’re listening to The Parents of Hardworking Teens Podcast, episode number 69 - the battle between perfection and being productive. Why both are needed - but at different times and how to know the difference.
Hi VIP’s. I hope you and your teens are well and you’re enjoying the school holidays - or that the new school year is going well if you’re in the northern hemisphere.
I am loving the school holidays, It’s my perfect combo of having time to really get into some big projects and get some meatier tasks done when I have more time than during the term AND also get to do some nice non-work things too. We are actually about to go on what might well be my most middle-aged trip so far! We’re going to Toowoomba for a few days and doing the flower festival. We’re going with some friends, and taking the dog and staying in an Air BnB and just taking in all things flowers, gardens and I’m sure some cafes and doing some good walks. All of which are totally up my street, but do make me feel like I’m early 60’s rather than early 40’s!
Now, this week’s episode is one that I’m really excited to share with you.
It’s taken from our recent Facebook Live and the reason I’m so keen to share it with you here on the podcast is because it’s a topic that I touch on REALLY frequently with students.
It’s the battle between perfection vs productivity and what’s required for best possible results. Because I often see students aiming for perfection when perfection is not only not needed, but in fact, is actually hindering them and their performance, AND not paying enough attention to getting as close to perfect as possible, when actually that’s what they do need to be doing.
So I’m going to share here the live nuggets and experience and advice I shared on that Facebook Live so that you can help guide your teen on using their time, energy and effort in the most effective ways - in their study - but also saving it for other things in life too.

So, those are two ways I see students spending way more time and effort on making things perfect than they need to or, in my opinion, should do. AND the tasks where they do need to be aiming for perfection.
After that bit of ‘teaching’, we then went to open Q&A, and I answered some great Qs and you can catch all of that on the recording which is posted on the Rock Solid Study Facebook page. Make sure to like and follow the page so you get updates on our next Live - I host these open Q&A live sessions on the third Wednesday of each month.
Have a brilliant rest of your day and I’ll meet you back here next week for a special ‘audio-book-style’ episode!
