My experience is this...
→ Students likely haven’t been specifically trained in the six elements of ‘exam technique’.
→ They haven’t had dedicated coaching on how exams really work, exactly how they're written and marked,
and what examiners are actually looking for.
>>> So they end up responding ‘on topic’ but NOT to the precise 'focus' of the question or in accordance with the mark scheme.
→ Likewise, they're not certain of - or skilled in - the most effective active revision strategies (AKA revision that actually WORKS!),
or how to strategically reverse-engineer a revision plan.
(Well, not beyond a couple of pages of tips pre-printed in their diary, or a two-hour 'study skills' incursion where they learn 'memory hacks' and how to make a study timetable...
which are #harshreality not the things that make the biggest difference to their results and confidence!)
So, it’s not the fault of the students.
Nor the teachers, the parents or the school!
The education system simply doesn’t provide for or require these skills to be explicitly taught, yet they're absolutely essential for exam success.
So, what’s the answer?
What if there WAS a way to teach students these skills, techniques and strategies
AND fully integrate them - in class, at home, in the actual exam hall?
So that come exam day, their knowledge flows from brain to paper clearly and succinctly, in the way the questions demand and mark schemes require, minus the stress and anxiety.
